Called
to serve as Associate Pastor to First Presbyterian Church in
the Spring of 2005, Chris previously served as Director of
Youth and Growth Ministries in
Woodland,
Washington
for 8 years.
He grew up in
Puyallup,
Washington,
and attended
Central
Washington
University
where he studies English Education.
He has been a certified teacher
in both
Washington
and Montana,
though has never worked as a teacher full time because of
his pastoral work.
He met Kim at CWU and they
were married July 6, 1996.
They moved together to
Portland,
Oregon
at that time while Chris went through his Masters of
Divinity work at Multnomah Biblical Seminary.

Chris and Kim are the proud
parents of two wonderful children, Lily and Michael.
They traveled to adopt
Lily about 18 months after arriving at Helena First
Presbyterian Church, and Michael became part of the family
in 2008.
Both Chris and Kim have
found that their story of infertility struggles, foster care
giving, and several failed attempts to adopt domestically
have given them a unique ministry to families that have
similar struggles they are working through.

A veteran of youth ministry for
15 years, Chris’ passion lies in mentoring youth and
challenging them to make their faith their own through
critical thinking, Biblical grounding in God’s truth, and
living out their faith through service.
The youth embark on a
yearly mission trip, and by the time they are in High
School, most are prepared to teach, lead, and live out their
faith in word and deed.

At the Presbytery level,
Chris has served on the Glacier Camp Board and is
currently the Chairman of the General Mission
and Ministry Team.
This is a good fit for
Chris, as he is passionate about ecumenical work
among the Christian churches in Western Montana,
especially in
Helena.
He has led community
efforts that have pulled together youth from many
churches in
Helena
to tackle problems like hunger and homelessness.
A staple of ministry
wherever Chris has been has been his love and
involvement with youth of all ages.
Pastor Chris can
regularly be found on the steps giving the
“Children’s Sermon” on Sundays, which regularly
brings surprises as well as spiritual insight for
the “older kids” sitting in the pews.
